Anacostia is getting a lot of attention these days. From new restaurants to the nation's first GoGo Museum is set to open early next year, even the Department of Housing and Community Development moved into a brand new building. But a new business that is hoping to create a third space that doesn’t contribute to the gentrification that many locals have pointed to as being disruptive and destructive to their communities. Meet Grounded, an online plant store that owners Mignon Hemsley and Danuelle Doswell turned into a storefront cafe, wellness studio and planterior design experience. But plant design and matcha lattes aren’t all that Mignon and Danuelle have planned for their business and new home. Read more at thewash.org.

    Initiative 83 passed with 71% of the vote in D.C., joining 62 other places using Ranked Choice Voting (RCV). It allows semi-open primaries, letting all voters participate regardless of party registration. However, strong opposition from D.C. Democrats makes the future of RCV uncertain. What’s next for Ranked Choice Voting, and who might block it?

    The campaign to win ranked choice voting and semi open primaries for D.C. residents isn't over with just a vote. On November 5th DC joined 62 other cities and states that already use some version of RCV. However, with some of fiercest opposition to RCV coming from DC democrats the route to a new way of voting is still unclear. So what’s next for Ranked Choice voting? What or who could stand in its way?

    Towards the end of 2024 the European Union adopted new foreign policies addressing, among other things, their military capabilities as well as plans for EU-US relations post US elections.
